a journal of odds and sodds that are the making of me

I have decided to get more involved in this blog. I resolve to keep it as a visual journal of my inspirations, thoughts and aspirations. I am in the middle of my m Tech studies in visual communication design and I think this is a great format for this kind of journaling. My studies are about the use of pictographic images as a visual voice. I have conceptualised and created sets of cards with this simple silhouetted style of the depiction of objects and figurative images. I have used them as a way to interact with people, a way to gather stories and as an educational tool. These cards function as creative prompts and subliminal triggers.

I am uploading the slide shows I have created of my paintings, cutouts, photosand collages. The movie clips I have made (movie technology and expertise accredited to Kieth Kennith) capture workshops and interactive happenings.

I found a mini-movie from 2001. My friend and colleague Mtendeni Zama had the technical know how and put it together under my odd guidance. It tied in with an exhibition i had at the KZNSA gallery in November that year. We did not seem to know too much about copy right in those days and i cringe that he isn't credited in anyway and that the incredible artist singing on it is not acknowledged.

But hey, seeing it reminds me of the drama that had been going on in my life at the time. Hectic, ! think i have come some way since then.

Some of the paintings prior to 01 are also pretty intense .I will drop one or two in. i was having issues with women's expectations of women's roles in society and huge anti establishment wobblies on how i percieved womens roles were defined in religion. I got over it - life moves on. lol

Confusion reigns- i didnt save the bloody blog-start again!

I am interested in the use of pictographic images as an alternate voice. I am using them as a way for people to voice social concerns, reflecting on society at large, narrating stories and as creative prompts in my teaching practice.
